Job role
Your role:
As a Mechanical Engineer Submariner (also known as Marine Engineer in the Navy), you’re in charge of keeping the submarine moving. You’ll get more responsibility early in your career than most civilian engineer roles and have opportunities to travel overseas.
In this extraordinary role, you’ll play a crucial part in keeping the submarine running. You’ll work as part of a tight-knit team to manage propulsion, provide electricity and maintain air flow. This keeps the crew comfortable and the submarine propelling, placing Mechanical Engineer Submariners at the very core of sub-surface Navy operations.
If you’re looking for a job that pushes you outside your comfort zone and helps you gain confidence alongside a great team of people, then a role as a Mechanical Engineer Submariner could be for you.
The professional development you gain as a Navy Engineer enables automatic Chartered Engineer (CPEng) accreditation with Engineers Australia, giving you international recognition of your Engineering competency.
You’ll be responsible for a variety of systems and structures. Some of these include, but aren’t limited to:
- The submarine’s structure,
- Propulsion systems,
- Electrical generation and distribution,
- Domestic and associated mechanical services,
- Main and auxiliary machinery,
- Engines,
- Air conditioning,
- Hydraulics.
